Family Bay State

The Goodell company purchased D.H. Whittemore and manufactured some of their designs with its own name on the parers. Goodell modified the all cast iron Bay State (not pictured in this museum) in several ways and named it the Family Bay State. The Family Bay State frame covers the threaded-shaft, places the paring arm at an angle and rotates the screw-mount 90-degrees. All of these modifications help keep the parings off the lathe and table to which it is mounted. The parer is marked FAMILY BAY STATE MADE BY GOODELL CO. ANTRIM, N.H. U.S.A. Goodell manufactured other modifications of this design. See Apple Parers by Thornton for more information.
