Advance
with Improved Push-Off
The
Advance with improved push-off is Reading Hardware Company's ultimate
lathe design. The push-off is activated when the advancing crank comes
into contact with a first-class lever, which is rotated upward and lifts
a bar of metal on the opposite side vertically (on the Penn the bar is
pushed horizontally). The metal bar that is lifted vertically locks into
place and acts as the
push-off
along
with
a three-pronged
brass ring within the fork. In
the previous design the first-class lever was the push-off. The slicing
blade is one piece and
heavy duty. A spring loaded clamp above the threaded-shaft has also been
added to the design. A
modified first-class lever with an incline allows one to push the paring
arm away from the apple. This parer is marked PAT.JULY 17,1883 5A. On
the opposite side of the frame the parer is marked PAT. OT.19, 75. ADVANCE
