This apple parer has a direct drive hand crank with a fork to rotate the apple. As the apple rotates a hand-guided paring knife is used to remove the peel. This basic table-mount design was replicated by many makers. This particular parer is very similar to one pictured in the book Apple Parers by Don Thornton, see fig 10-47 p. 201. The one pictured in Thornton's book has a paper label that reads SOLD BY M. F. BURRY AT THEIR SEED STORE AGRICULTURAL WARRANTED No. 15 MERCHANTS' ROW BOSTON. |
