Thompson

The Thompson parer was designed by George R. Thompson and manufactured by the New England Butt Company of Providence, Rhode Island. The parer uses an arc-shaped rack and pinion to drive a return mechanism. It is a combination of an arc and a return. Once the apple is pared it continues down onto a segmenter. Once segmented the core is pushed down through a hole in the board. The parer is marked THOMPSON PARER PAT'D AUG. 14 '77 and MADE BY N.E. BUTT OF PROV., R.I. The corer/slicer is pictured below. The metal to the left serves two functions. First, the top activates a first-class lever, which helps push the apple core off the fork. Second, this piece of metal acts as a stand to help support the handle. The metal to the right supports the cutting arm.
