Thompson View 2

According to Thornton (1997), the Thompson was offered exclusively in Western Maryland by Coleman (p.140). The Thompson handle is pictured below. Inbetween the word PAT'D and the date AUG. 14 '77 is a first-class lever. As the lever comes into contact with the metal stand mounted in the board it pivots. The other end of the lever pushes the fork gear's axle downward. The axle of the fork gear is equipped with a flat piece of metal oriented between the three prongs of the fork. As the axle and its flat metal piece are forced downward it removes the core from the fork. Thus the axle in the fork gear acts as a push-off on the Thompson. See a close-up of the Thompson push-off.
