Carter Lathe

This example of Carter's lathe looks very much like the Aug. 26, 1856 patent drawing shown in the book Apple Parers (Thornton 1997, p. 11). Unlike the previous example, this parer has the same paring head as shown in the original patent drawing. It is also the same paring head used in Carter's second lathe design of Nov. 18, 1856 (not exhibited in our museum). This parer has two interesting labels, one on the side and one on the bottom.
