Advance

Reading Hardware Company added the blossom knife to their lathe parers. The first version of the Advance has a large thubscrew to secure the slicing blades. Like the Penn lathes, the push-off on the Reading lathe parers was activated by the advancing crank. The Penn push-off is a bar of metal with a yolk shape at the end, which moves horizontally with the advancing crank. The push-off on the first Advance is a first class lever that is rotated upward and locked into place. The Parer is marked ADVANCE READING HDWE. CO. PATENT PENDING B. KNIFE PAT. OCT. 19, 75
